best of all worlds #38 – EOY Special Part 1

As it is NYE, I find it appropriate to post a “best of all worlds”, best of 2011 podcast.  Fitting all my favourites into a 1 hour podcast was highly unlikely, so I posted 4 separate podcasts instead of the usual 1 hour podcast.

Part 1, usual eclectic business, mainly wonky hiphop, jazz and world music… don’t expect much mixing in this part.

2011 has definitely been a great year for music, so many great tracks, albums, and labels… I’ve enjoyed making these podcasts, and I hope you will enjoy listening to them.

Thanks for listening,

Happy New Year!

Cengiz

best of all worlds #37

In the weeks podcast, music from James Blake, the new 12 inch is out on R&S… quirky bit of music, but I’m really liking it.  You don’t get to hear him sing on any of these tracks, so quite different from the album.  Though it’s different and very innovative.  Definitely worth buying.

Also in this weeks podcast, music from Marc Mac, the album titled Extend The Knowledge is out on Omniverse Records, 25 tracks mixed up in a continuous fashion, taking you through the 1960’s Civil Rights Campaign… new music from Loka… a fantastic big band I very recently discovered, the album “Passin Place” is out on Ninja Tune now… and finally house music from Klic, the Lovebirds and Andreas Saag…

Thanks for listening,

Cengiz

best of all worlds #36

Tru-Thoughts records have been putting out some fantastic releases lately, the Zed Bias album, the Hidden Orchestra EP and now, very recently the new Mark De Clive Lowe album… like the album, quiet different from the previous Mark De Clive Lowe albums, it’s less broken, less dance floor, more song writing oriented… all tracks except those jazzy interludes and minute tracks, which I do love by the way, have vocalists on them; favourites include, “Push” featuring Bembe Seque, “Get Started” featuring Omar and “Under Orders” featuring Tawiah… I like the arrangements, the lyrics, and the overall finish… definitely one great album to listen to from start to finish…

Also in this weeks podcast, music from Floating Points, his new EP is out in the shops, there is talks of a Floating Point album, so what out… music from Falty DL, intersting EP on Ninja Tune, a new remix from the Ambassadeurs, and new music from the Al Scott Trio, London based jazz trio, they just put out a 6 track via band camp… I did have the pleasure of watching the trio live a while back, great bit of classic jazz…

Oh by the way, I recently found out that Mark is doing the Sun Splash festival next year… he is a fantastic performer, check out the footage from his London gig a few weeks back… I believe the tickets for Sun Splash 2012 are on sale now, I’ve had the pleasure of playing in the last two, definitely worth going… line up is sick!
