best of all worlds #24

It’s definitely been a while since the last podcast, apologies for the delay… had a few extremely busy weeks and to top it up, had to move house.  But nevertheless, here is the latest podcast covering the usual wide spectrum of music.

If you’re living in London, and you’re into good, across the border music, you must have heard of the legendary Boglewaltz Tropical Garden Parties that take place mainly in the summer time.  The crew who threw those fantastic parties decided to take it to the the next level by putting a compilation together which features some of the artists and producers who performed at these magical parties over the years…  There is some fantastic cuts on the album, including new music from lesser known upcoming artists as well as some established acts such as the Sound Species, Kay Suziki and Guynamite… Definitely a good buy.  I think only available through bandcamp [http://boglewaltz.bandcamp.com/album/boglewaltz-we-came-for-the-music].  Launch party is on the 15th of April, at “The New Empowering Church”.

Also in this weeks podcast, new music from Dotmatic, I’m loving the “It Yours” EP… Hummin’ in the sun with Roy Ayers, interesting bit of hiphop music from Jazzy Sport, more music from the 74 Miles Away project, soul funk business from Cathy Edgar, and a fantastic Floating Points remix on Ninja Tunes.

As usual, loads and loads more, so tune in if you can.

Thanks for listening,

Cengiz

Started this weeks podcast with a track from the man who calls him self “Sbtrkt”, he has without a doubt become one of the most important producers of our time… The hybrid garage style track titled “Living Like I Do” featuring Sampha on vocals is absolutely fantastic.  Already getting massive radio play, this track definitely has the potential to be one of the best tunes of 2011, and even maybe cross over to the charts.  The official release date for the 12 inch is 11th of April, however a digi copy can be obtained through iTunes now.  I believe the first ever Sbtrkt album is scheduled to drop in June.

Also in this weeks podcast, music from Ben Westbeech, the new album will be dropping soon on Strictly Rhythm, but the remixes are already out there… the Deetron remix of Falling is bad ass…  new Taylor McFerrin, more from the recent Natural Yogurt Band album, and dubstep music from Pangaea, MJ Cole and Afrika Hitech…

Thanks for listening,

Cengiz

The highlight of this weeks podcast is got to be the track titled “Haw Right Now” by Patrice Rushen.  I was fortunate enough to stumble up on a copy of her “Prelusion” album recently.  No non-sense, straight up jazz business I say… Liking what I heard, I dug a little deeper: barely out of her teens, keyboardist Patric Rushen started recording for Prestige records, by the late 70s – before she signed up with Elektra to pursue her carrier as a R&B singer, she had already added a trio of instrumental jazz albums to her discography; which included Prelusion, Before the Dawn and Shout it Out in 1978 featuring Joe Henderson on tenor Saxophone… The tracks that got my attention the most out of Prelusion were probably “Puttered Bopcorn” and “Haw Right Now”, especially the track Haw Right Now, reminds me of some of the material Herbie Hancock recorded on the Headhunters album…  Definitely need to check out the other two albums at some point!

Also in this weeks podcast, music from Arp 101 on Eglo Records, new The Hackney Collinery Band, new Wagon Christ, nice bit of UK soulful from Phil Asher featuring Zansika.  Also I’ve decided to do a mini Jay Dee selection, in tribute to the great beat maker.  Though instead of playing you the more obvious hiphop productions, I’ve chosen a few of my favourite Jay Dee instrumentals.  Definitely overlooked a lot of his great work, but there are loads of tribute mixes out there, so if you need a good dosage of Jay Dee, check out the mix by Benji B at [ http://soundcloud.com/benji-b/benji-b-j-dilla-tribute-bbc ]
