best of all worlds #18

This podcast was actually ready to go online last Thursday, but the cold weather in London finally got the best of me, and I got a bad case of the flu.  I’ve spent the last 4 days in bed watching mostly day time TV!  So apologize for the delay.

Started this weeks edition with a current favourite of mine, 74 Miles Away, track titled “Same Dream Again”… result of a fantastic collaboration project between Belgian jazz pianist Pierre Anckaert, and the producer collective Monkey Robot.  Apparently the inspiration for this project was the “Fender Rhodes”, enough said, cannot wait for the album.  “Same Dream Again” features Ahu and Milles Bonny on the vocals and will be available for purchase in January as a apart of a Brownswood compilation titled Wordlwide Family Vol.1  The album will drop on Melting Pot records in February next year.  So get involved!

Also in this weeks edition, music from Finn Peters, Henrik Schwarz, Martin, The SimonSound, Electric Wire Hustle, Mount Kimbie and James Blake.

Thanks for listening,

Cengiz

In spirit with the London Jazz Festival, this weeks podcast turned up to be on the jazzy tip, nevertheless, the usual rules still apply, and all angles are covered.    I started this edition with a track from a producer called Randomer… mad is the word, new 12 inch on Tru-Thoughts records; crazy beat arrangements, heavy baselines and ultra cool synths… all in one track.  Absolutely fantastic!  So what else… quite a few remixes in this weeks edition… Scuba recently released a remixes album titled “Triangulation Interpretations”… out of all the great remixes on the album, the FaltyDL interpretation of “On Deck” sticks out the most for me.  Definitely worth checking out this recent release on Hotflush Recordings.

Also to watch out for in this weeks edition; dubstep music from Burial, Benny Ill and SBTRKT… a great track from a jazz band I recently found out about called The Rongetz Foundation, track titled “Simone”… and another fantastic track I picked up from Henry, one half of the Sound Species, at last Sundays cdr session, track titled “Let’s Create”… the track sounds great as it is, but I was told, there will be some vocals added to it soon, can’t wait to hear the finished version…

As for the highlight of this weeks podcast, well it has to be the Quicy Jones version of “Manteca”, originally composed by Dizzy Gillespie, this track takes me to another high.  Quincy’s 1973 LP titled “You’ve Got It Bad Girl” also inlcudes covers of those all time classics such as Day Dreaming and Superstition by Stevie Wonder.

Loads more good music as usual, so don’t forget to tune in!

Thanks for listening,

Cengiz

Started this weeks edition with Ahmad Jamal… I recently got a hold of a 7 inch reissue featuring two fantastic tracks from The Awakening LP released in 1970 on Impulse records.  I can honestly say, I’m deeply in love with the track titled “I Love Music”.   It’s Zen music to my ears!  I played the whole 7 minutes without any interruptions so that you can fully appreciate this beautiful piece of music…  oh by the way, check out the following video featuring Nas, track titled, “The World Is Yours”, Pete Rock on the production… a big tune from 94.  I’m sure you will recognize the sample.

Also in this weeks edition, new freebie from Shigeto, track titled “This is for y’all”… a fantastic Roy Ayers rework from Simon S, a great track from the British acid jazz band Incognito, titled 1975, taken from their recent summer album on Dome records…  more music from the dj Spinna compilation on BBE records… dubstep music from Klic, SBTRKT and Matt-U… And finally, watch out for the track titled Fanfair Oddysey, Gilles Peterson has been dropping this track a lot lately, happy to finally own a reissue copy, it’s strictly jazz dance business…

I think enough is said, I hope you’ll enjoy this weeks podcast…

Thanks for listening,

Cengiz
